Earlier this month, Children’s Mental Health Week (3rd–9th February 2025) encouraged young people to explore the theme “Know Yourself, Grow Yourself.” But just because the week has passed doesn’t mean the message should be forgotten.
At The Wellbeing Crew, we believe that mental wellbeing should be a year-round priority. When children understand themselves—their emotions, strengths, and challenges—they can develop the confidence and resilience to thrive.
Why ‘Know Yourself, Grow Yourself’ Matters
Self-awareness is the foundation of mental wellbeing. When children understand their emotions, triggers, and strengths, they are better equipped to manage stress, build resilience, and navigate life’s challenges.
But self-awareness alone isn’t enough—it’s also about growth. Learning new coping skills, practicing self-care, and developing a strong sense of identity all contribute to positive mental health and wellbeing.
What Did We Learn From Children’s Mental Health Week 2025?
This year’s theme reminded us that:
- Self-awareness builds confidence – Understanding emotions helps children feel more in control of their wellbeing.
- Growth takes time – Encouraging children to develop coping skills and self-care habits is a lifelong process.
- Support networks matter – Schools, families, and communities all play a vital role in helping young people flourish.
Now that the awareness week has ended, how can we keep this message alive?
How We Can Continue Supporting Children’s Mental Health
1. Encourage Self-Reflection
Helping children recognize their emotions, strengths, and challenges builds self-awareness. Journaling, mindfulness, and open conversations can support this process.
2. Promote Growth Through Learning & Wellbeing Habits
Encouraging children to develop healthy coping strategies—such as deep breathing, creative expression, and problem-solving—helps them navigate challenges with confidence.
3. Create Supportive Environments
Children thrive when they feel safe and supported. Schools and families should foster open communication, emotional check-ins, and a culture of growth.
4. Support Digital Wellbeing
Social media can shape a child’s self-perception. Setting boundaries, promoting positive content, and discussing online wellbeing helps children maintain a healthy sense of self.
5. Ensure Ongoing Mental Health Support
Whether through mentoring, school wellbeing programs, or professional support, ensuring children have access to the help they need is key to their long-term growth.
